This morning I'm thinking of Italy, I'm thinking of Florence, I'm thinking of the sun, I'm thinking of the blue sky, I'm thinking of love, and I'm thinking of my maternal grandfather, who was a great lover of cycling. I was lucky enough to spend two weeks in the capital of Tuscany a long time ago. First with my parents when I was about fifteen, then a few years later with my then girlfriend. I'm sure I'd go back again, so enchanted was I by this city, so beautiful and radiant, so steeped in history.
I am thinking of Italy and Tuscany because the Tour de France just left Florence this morning and I had the pleasure of reliving some of the history of the city and its famous monuments from behind my screen. Old memories came flooding back, like crossing the Ponte Vecchio, visiting Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, strolling through the Boboli Gardens, and of course tasting the best gelato in town! Do you have fond memories of Florence? I'd love to read about them!
I've been having a bit of fun redesigning the Scribe logo over the last few days. The moon slipped in discreetly, I hope you like it! Notes has also made its appearance in the publication's navigation bar, giving us direct access to this great Substack feature, which I think you should consume without moderation! I've also added a link to the chat, which I prefer to call the Literary Salon, and which is only available to paying subscribers. I'll tell you more about that soon. I can even tell you the date - it'll be July 3rd, with a little surprise announcement! 🌷
Until then, have a lovely weekend, and thank you so much for reading!
Tom
